Hollsco Group - LicenseID Documentation

Initial Configuration

When LicenseID is run for the first time, it will ask for registration information:

If you have registered LicenseID, enter the information you were given and click Save Registration Key. If you are still testing LicenseID, click Continue in Demo Mode. LicenseID will run for fifteen minutes in demo mode.

When LicenseID starts up, it will display the following configuration message:

After ten seconds, it will revert to the default screen. To set the initial configuration, press CTRL-P to display the configuration window. If LicenseID has never been run before, it will display the configuration window automatically:

Patrons must be xx years old: Any patron whose driver's license shows that they are under this age limit on the date the card was swiped will be shown as underage. This can be used to bar underage patrons from the premises.

Seniors must be xx years old: Any patron whose driver's license shows that they are over this age limit on the date the card was swiped will be shown as a senior citizen. This can be used to identify those patrons who are given special deals.

Use Wedge Reader: If selected, LicenseID will work with keyboard "wedge" type card readers. If you wish to use this type of card reader, you must enable this setting. NOTE: You can use both a wedge reader and a COM port (RS-232 serial) reader at the same time if you wish, enabling one copy of LicenseID to work on two different readers simultaneously.

Use Serial Port: By default, LicenseID will automatically work with "wedge" type card readers. If you wish to use a serial port (RS-232) card reader, you must enable this setting, and configure the proper COM port, baud rate, and settings. NOTE: You can use both a wedge reader and a COM port (RS-232 serial) reader at the same time if you wish, enabling one copy of LicenseID to work on two different readers simultaneously.

Ignore Expiry Date of Card: If this is checked, LicenseID will read and display the expiry date on the card, but will not take any action based on that expiry date.

Message Stay On Screen: By default, LicenseID displays messages on screen for five seconds. This can be changed from 2 to 20 seconds using this parameter.

Text Fields: LicenseID has the capability of changing the messages displayed on screen. You can change the messages to anything you wish by changing the text fields on this screen. If you wish to return the messages to their default values, click Reset Text to English Defaults. You can also reset the messages to the equivalent default values in other languages by clicking the appropriate buttons.

Operation

Once configuration is complete, the main screen will be displayed:

As well, the current date and time will be shown in the bottom right hand corner of the screen:

At this point, LicenseID is ready to accept cards.

Valid Card

When a valid card is swiped, the screen turns bright green, a bell noise is generated, and the following message is shown:

As well, information from the card is displayed in the top left corner of the screen:

This information can be used to verify that the card is in fact valid, and is not a fake ID. The encoded license number is shown along with the month and year of expiry, the patron's birth date, astrological sign, and current age. The astrological sign can be used to challenge the patron - many fake ID holders may know the date of birth shown on the fake ID, but will not know the astrological sign associated with that birthday.

Underage Card

When the card of an underage patron is swiped, the screen turns red, a buzzer noise is generated, and the following message is shown:

As well, the information from the card is displayed in the top left corner of the screen:

Senior Card

When the card of a senior patron is swiped, the screen turns purple, a bell noise is generated, and the following message is shown:

As well, the information from the card is displayed in the top left corner of the screen:

Expired Card

If the card being swiped has an expiry date that has passed, and the "Ignore expiry date of card" option is not selected in the configuration screen, the screen turns red, a buzzer noise is generated, and the following message is shown:

If the "Ignore expiry date of card" option is selected in the configuration screen, this message will never be shown.

Invalid Card

If the card being swiped cannot be read, either due to a faulty or worn-out magstripe, or because the format of the information on the magstripe is not of ISO standard, the screen turns blue, a buzzer noise is generated, and the following message is shown:

Exiting

LicenseID can be terminated by pressing the ESC key on the keyboard. All settings are saved for the next time it is run.

Requirements

It is highly recommended that LicenseID be run on a PC with at least 1024x768 screen resolution, a color monitor, and with a sound card and speakers installed. This allows the user to identify patrons' status using screen color and/or sound, without having to read the information on the screen.

Privacy

LicenseID does not record the information scanned on the licenses. It is shown on the screen for several seconds after the card is swiped, and then disappears.
